The kingmakers of Zazzau emirate have shortlisted three princes and forwarded to Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai for his consideration and appointment as new Emir of Zazzau, according to a Daily Trust report.
The report said the kingmakers shortlisted Bashir Aminu, Iyan Zazzau (89 marks); Munir Jafaru, Yariman Zazzau (87) and; Aminu Shehu Idris, Turakin Karamin Zazzau (53 marks).
The kingmakers are currently meeting Governor El-Rufa’i at Sir Kasim Ibrahim Government House, the report said.
The kingmakers received application from 11 princes from all the four ruling houses of the emirate to succeed the late emir, Alhaji Shehu Idris, who died on Sunday.
The four ruling houses are Barebari, Katsinawa, Mallawa and Sullubawa. The Barebari ruling house has had nine emirs, while the Katsinawa and Mallawa ruling houses had four emirs each. Sullubawa only occupied the stool once.
The meeting to select the three princes for the stool of Zazzau was chaired by the Wazirin Zazzau, Ibrahim Aminu who is the chairman of the kingmakers.
According to the report, other kingmakers who attended the meeting included Fagachin Zazzau, Umaru Muhammad, Makama Karamin Zazzau, Muhammad Abbas, Chief Imam of Zazzau, Dalhatu Kasimu Imam and Limamin Konan Zazzau, Muhammad Sani Aliyu.
The Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufa’i is expected to pick the new emir from the shortlisted candidates.
