The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said it is a huge scam for the Federal Government to claim it is still carrying out the school feeding programme when schools are shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Thursday, alleged that some officials in Buhari’s government were trying to siphon N13.5 billion under the guise of feeding school children during the lockdown.
The opposition party alleged that some officials in the Buhari Presidency are trying to finance their lavish lifestyles by diverting N679 million daily to private purses under the cover feeding school children.
“While it is clear that the APC-led administration’s school feeding programme had always been a scam, the claims to feed school children even when schools are closed is a collosal racketeering taken too far,” the party said.
The PDP questioned how the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Umar Farouq, plans to feed school children who are in their respective homes following the closure of schools.
It pointed out that Farouq has been making conflicting pronouncements each time Nigerians demand details of her humongous spending.
The party insisted that the Minister has failed to provide details of how she intends to reach the 9.7 million school children, who are now in their homes in different locations since the closure of schools.
The opposition called on President Buhari to stop officials from using the school feeding programme as an avenue to steal public funds.
