President Trump’s Health — Covid-19 Shows No Partiality, By Philip Odoemena

King Solomon, most famous for his wisdom once wrote in his Proverbs:“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring” Proverbs 27:1

In the same Proverbs, King Solomon wrote:“The Prudent see danger and take refuge, but the Simple keep going and pay the penalty” Proverbs 27:12

While I join the multitude of people wishing President Trump a quick recovery from Covid-19, I reiterate some of the publications from United States tabloids alleging that President Trump knew of the Coronavirus Spread and the health issues it poses, way ahead of time, but ignored the advice of experts concerning the virus.

The New York Times in its examination revealed that there were warnings from the intelligence community, national security aides and government officials, but the President played down the crisis. According to Michael D. Shear in his article published on April 11, 2020, and updated on April 21, 2020, he wrote: “Top White House advisers as well as experts deep in the cabinet departments and intelligence agencies all sounded alarms and urged aggressive action to counter the threat from the coronavirus, but President Trump remained slow to respond”

BBC News of September 10, 2020 reported that “US President Donald Trump knew Covid-19 was deadlier than the flu before it hit the country (USA) but wanted to play down the crisis, according to a new book”

BBC was referring to a “New Book” authored by Bob Woodward, a revered journalist who broke the Watergate scandal. According to the report, Bob Woodward interviewed President Trump 18 times from December to July and the President told Bob Woodward that he knew that the virus was “deadly stuff” but was avoiding causing public panic in the country.

To date, over 209,000 thousand people have died of the covid-19 in USA and over seven million cases reported or tested positive, one of them tested positive is the President of the United States of America.

Back to the wise word from King Solomon on Proverbs 27:12: “The Prudent see danger and take refuge, but the Simple keep going and pay the penalty”.

If the President of the United States of America was prudent enough, if he was far-sighted and judicious enough, he would have seen danger and perhaps taken refuge, in other words, he would have sought various means to protect American citizens, including himself and his wife, from this virus. If President Trump was prudent enough, he wouldn’t have repeatedly downplayed the severity of the virus pandemic and often contradicted public health experts and members of the White House in their grave warnings about covid-19, instead, he remained “Simple” and now paying the penalty along with more than 209,000 people who died and over seven million people who tested positive.

Again, I go to Proverbs 27:1 “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring”.

President Donald Trump repeatedly refused to wear a mask and even mocked former Vice President Joe Biden for wearing a mask. Well, President Trump refused to believe that no one knows what tomorrow may bring. The President of United States who is overly protected medically, in his wildest dreams, never knew that he was going to test positive for covid-19. He has always projected cavalier attitude towards wearing a mask in public not to talk about his ‘sweet-talk” of those who wear masks.

Lesson for President Donald Trump and all of us is that our eyes cannot penetrate the thick veil or curtain which God hangs between us and TOMORROW that we cannot see beyond the spot that we are now. For that reason, we should all have a humble attitude towards tomorrow (the feature). King Solomon was not telling ruling out wise and prudent planning for tomorrow, bur warning us of overconfidence and sense of ability to control tomorrow, and by so doing, under minding and presuming God’s plan for us in the future.

Last, but not the least, we have all learned now that Coronavirus is not the respecter of persons. Covid-19 shows no partiality.
